Appearance

It has a long, thin cylindrical shape and its length is 30-100cm and diameter 7-20mm, and it has small branch roots but does not branch off, and near the root top it is slightly twisted, and has a stem stump. The outer side has a light gray-yellow or light yellow-brown color. There are groups of gray-brown cork layers remaining here and there, and it has irregular and rough vertical wrinkles and horizontal lenticel shapes. Its texture is tight and hard to break, and the bended area is fibrous. When looking at the cross-section is seen through a magnifying glass, the outermost part is the periderm and its skin is a light yellow-white color, the xylem has a light yellow color, and the area around the cambium has a slight yellow-brown color. The skin thickness is approximately 1/3 – 1/2 of the xylem diameter, and there are white perpendiculars from the xylem at the thin roots, but the thick ones sometimes have several radial splitting cracks. This medicine has a slight unique odor and its taste is sweet.
